This survey has been in operation biuce 1871 and lias covered and mapped about 295,000 square oiilea a region of country hitherto Liosurveyed and practically unknown iia regards lis physical features and resources. The information gathered is of the highest value to the government govern-ment and nil the interests located in the region travorsed, and to all such enterprises as arc seeking profitable investments. Besides the mapa t great deal of valuable information has been gathered and a portion published, pub-lished, embracing paleontology, na-I na-I tural history, climatology, agricultural agricul-tural and mineral resource t, etc. , etc., all of which is of immediate interest. The organization of the survey iu personnel, instruments and equipments been brought to a hbjh standard, and if dissolved for even a pericd of one year would incur a loss to the government and national inler-I inler-I eels that could not be restored in a i number ol years to come. |
