Jones attempted to amend the silver coin bill by declaring de-claring the double standard of coinage coin-age and making silver a legal tender for all debts except interest on the public debt and customs dues. He made a long speech in favor ot the proposition. The senate voted to insist on its amendments to the army appropriation appropria-tion bill, and a new conference committee com-mittee was appointed and the senate adjourned. HOUSE. The senate amendments to ths army appropriation bill were non-concurred non-concurred in, and a new committee was appointed. Tne senate silver coin bill was amended by authorizing the coinage of 520,000,000 silver for issue in the ordinary disbursements of the treasury; treas-ury; also by making the ordinary silver dollar a legal tender in payment pay-ment of all debts, public and private, and the bill was adopted yeas, 110; nays, 45. |
