Smith met in the University building on Saturday afternoon and yesterday to discuss the school book question, with special refereuce to the late convention con-vention ot superintendents held in this city. Aa the community very generally understand, there has been much talk concerning the action of the convention in adopting for use in the district schools certain books, and this talk has resulted in the superintendents super-intendents and teachers declining to accept some of tho school books adopted by the convention. There ia no provision in the law compelling the use of any set of books to tho exclusion ex-clusion of others, henca all action in the matter by superintendents and others amounts simply to recommendations. recommen-dations. The result of the teachers' convention, which ckued last evening, even-ing, wa0 the adoption of the following: ltesolvetl, That the following resolution reso-lution be submitted by the secretary of this convention to the honorable superintendent, O.
