The bill of Representative Rep-resentative Willis with reference to relieving the national banks from certain taxation, which was referred to the committee on banking and currency, declares the purpose and intention of section 5,219 of tbe revised re-vised statutes to be that no taxes shall be imposed upon abarca of national banka by state legislatures or authorities at a greater rate of tax imposed and valuation put upon other pergonal and real property in the hands of individual citizens of the respective states, and exemptions with respect to taxation as other personal per-sonal property. The president and cabinet have decided not to recognize either branch of the Louisiana government until the pending congressional investigations are concluded. He expressed the opinion that the democratio fitate government organization has the sympathy of a sufficient portion of the people of the state as have the requisite means to give sustenance to it. It would be his duty to preserve the peace aud prevent bloodshed. |
