Show Gilman's Affidavit. Editors Herald: I notico by a telegraphic dispatch published in your paper this morning that cerLain charges have been filed in the attorney general's office in Washington against District Attorney Howard, predicated upon an affidavit made by Edwin Oilman of this city, who deposes that the confession ol John D. Lee which was published ne coming from Howard was obtained under promise of a reprieve, and that several import. mi. tacts of the confession implicating Brigham Young were omitted, etc. Now the question arises, who is this Edwin Oilman and what is his credibility? There arc scores of people who know Oilman in this city who would not believe him under oath.
