Ingersoll lectured to-night at Stein-way Stein-way 'hall, to a largo audieuco on "Political Questions and Answers." In regard to the policy of tho prcsi dent tho spoaker said there must be peaco between tho north tmd Bouth, aud President Hayes had taken proper aud noblo means for bringing about unity and friendship. He has joined the hands of the north and south and asked that hatred be buried and friendship shino forth. In the speaker's speak-er's opinion tho president had a perfect per-fect right to select his own cabinet without reference to party or politics, and the country and all honest men will standby him iu his actions. The speaker then reviewed each member of the cabinet, and declared himselt amply satisfied with them individually aud collectively. If President Hayes finds his policy fails, he caa aud will change it, but he ought to have a fair trial. He has oflered tho olive branch to the southern states, and let us hope they will accent it. The speaker concluded with a brilliaut and eloquent elo-quent peroration, supolicatiug the south to join hand again with the north and bury forever uast hatred. He was loudly apnUuded on finishing. |
