Show Hi-ouino Ladies o:; SlKtET CAita. ' Ji is a noticeable and disagreeable fact that when a pretiy lady bounds into a street car the over gallant conductor con-ductor almost invariably Hops his arms around her waist. The excuse is that this is done to assist the lady in the car, but it is observed that the conductor stands on the platform aud performs this pleasing operation after it is of no possible use to her, and as jbe is entering tho car. The additional addi-tional excuse is made that he encircles encir-cles her waist at this last moment to prevent her tilting back, when the car starts. But that is no excuse; when once safe on the outer platform the lady is fully able to walk to a seat without any outside pressure from tho conductor's bauds. Such practice prac-tice is not only rude, but it soils the lady'B dress, ruflles her temper aud deprives the soft young man wi th her of a delightful duty -if such assistance assis-tance were really necessary. No one ever Baw a street cur conductor assist a homely lady iu tjucb a manner. Tbisof itself speaks volumes of evi deuce. San. Fran. Chronuie. |
