Show DKKBY'M H ItlU A dispatch from Lord Derby to Lori-i LolUii, British ambassador to Russia for transmititiion to Prince Gorlschfihoff, dated November 10th, contains the following sentences, which ahow the critical relations recently re-cently existing between England and Russia: Lord Derby relates a conversation he had with General Schouvaloff, the Russian minister at London. General Gen-eral Schouvalotf expressed doubts to me whether Russia would accept the six months' armistice offered by the porte. I thought it right to warn stroDg might be the national indignation indigna-tion against the Turkish cruelties it j might be superceded by a very different differ-ent sentiment it the English nation once believed Constantinople was threatened. I told him every one would believe Russia's reception of an armistice indicated a fixed purpose pur-pose for war against Turkey, and entered en-tered him to use every eflort to make the Russian government understand the light in which the English people would view such a resolution. |
