Show Drilling Into War. New York, 2. The Times' Washington Wash-ington special says: A prominent republican said to-day that three causes are pushing the country on to war with Mexico. The military party, headed by Sherman, were anxious to have a war and prevent a considerable consider-able reduction of the army proposed by the democratic party. The speculative specu-lative interests involved in the land grants made by the Lordo government govern-ment and cancelled by the Diaz administration, were united with political influences in asking for war. To draw attention from the ordinary course of civil affairs, the great popularity pop-ularity of war at the south was a constant con-stant temptation to the administration anxious to conciliate the southern, states and southern votes. |
