Show Sisterly Affection. A rather singular social occurrence transpired yosterday, and one which may find its way into the courts. It appears that about a year and a half ago, Mr. James McKnight placed one of his children, a little girl her mother being dead into a family named Davis, residing in the Second ward. The child has complained bit terly of cruel treatment on the part ot , the family, who, she asserts, whipped her unmercifully, frequently locked her in a room for hours together, without giving her anything to eat, and "wore generally unkind to her. The child is 9 yoara of ae, and is said to be bright and intelligent. Yesterday her half-suter, half-suter, Miss McLain, taking advantage of the absence from home of the Davis family, proceeded lo the boose for the purpose of rescuing and obtaining ob-taining possession of the child. She found her Bi-ter a prisoner in a gar-rett, gar-rett, where the littla girl said she had been confined for noiue time. Obtaining Ob-taining a ladder, Bhe placed it against the wall, and tnus asii.sted her sister to escape through the window of the garret. Miss McLain asserts her intention in-tention of holding poisosaion of the child at all hazards. She Bays she thinks she is the proper guardian, u.nd proposes to act accordingly. Her sisterly afTuction forbid her seeing the child abused or maltreated, and Bhe hopes if the matter is carried into the courts tbe law will protect them both. . If tho facte are as represented, and we have no reason to doubt tkem, we coQimend the pluck ol tho young lady, and sincerely hope she will conae out victorious in her noble, efforts. |
