Show TO TRE PUBLIC Notice Concerning Business witll the Laud Ollke- Land Off ce, Salt Laeb City, November 10, 1S70. Editors Herald: Dear Sirs. Will you ullow me a little spase in your columns to make a statement for the information of '.hose who may have business with the United States laud Office? On the 26th of October I was, by telegram tele-gram from the department of the interior, placed in charge of said office as custodian, merely until a register and ; receiver could be appointed ap-pointed and qualified. As such custodian I am not authorized to transact any official business in said office. Parlies having contested or other cases pending in this offico, will not be prejudiced iu their rights by this temporary suspension ol official business, busi-ness, as the law provides for such emergencies. Papers can be received, however, placed on file and the date of the filing noted thereon, but no official receipt can be given. The president has appointed ap-pointed a register and receiver who will in a Bhort time qualify and enter upon the duties of'the office, publica tion of which fact will be made when it occurs. For further information of those having business with the land office, I desire to sUte that all parlies making applicatien for lauds by mail lo this office should address the tame , lo tho register of the land oflice, taking care to euclose the legal fees or charges, due in such applications in a separate letter to the receiver. , This will avoid confusion, suspicion and much misunderstanding which will otherwise occur. All communications and letters containing morrey should be addressed to the receiver, as he is by law made the custodiau of the funds and the disbursing agent of tho government tor this laud office, and is the only officer authorized by law to receive and receipt for the same.
