Show nqio on the I.oiiiiuuu Klectiou. New York, 11. Workf's Washington: Washing-ton: The first member of the Louisiana Louisi-ana investigating committee ou the purl of the house reached the capital to-day, Crapo of Massachusetts, ft pronounced republican, but a man disposed lo trciit partisan issues with reasonable fairness. The sub-committee to which he was assigned gathered evidence in Ouachita and two adjoining parishes, whoso voto was rejected by the returning board. Crapo has come back disposed to look on the whole election as a farce, curbed with donble-dealim? noliticiana on both sides. He attacks republicans repub-licans as severely as democrats. A conversation with him leaves no question, ques-tion, however, that the Louisiana committee will makeopposing reports after the precise fashion of the visiting visit-ing statesmen, with some variation, however, in the method of taking testimony. tes-timony. Tho testimony of each set ol visitors is tolerably unanimous. The testimony taken by the committees commit-tees is of the most conllicting character, char-acter, aud by taking depositions and evidence of extreme republicans, Crapo bays almost any assertion by the returning board can be justified. The average of the testimony, and especially that from property holders, gives a result of a wholly difierent order.' |
