Dexter, chairman of the board of health, appeal for help for thestricken city. Half ol the population are down with the yellow lever. Business is suspended and supplies exhausted. Unless aid is speedily sent, many will-die will-die of starvation. NEW ORLEANS. New Orleans. 2G. The official report re-port of the board of health says: There have boon reported by the board Iroin i the 11th ol August to date twenty-nix twenty-nix cases of yellow lever, ol which seventeen were fatal. The disease is confined to a few squares in the upper portion of tho city. Only one uew case has been reported since Saturday. No apprehension is felt. A meeting of the New Orleans associated associ-ated press this evening passed resolutions resolu-tions requesting the board of health to order the reopeniug of McDonough and Laurel schools, closed by order of tbo board a few days since, as there was not sufficient cause to justify ilitir closing and the order created unnecessary apprchcusions. It was suusequently agreed that the ship leaving Morgan city to-morrow, 27tli, couid come in providing no sickness was on board. RELIEF FROM CHICAGO. Chicago, 2G. Tbo board of trade are taking active measures to raiso a relief fuud for the sutlering in Savannah Sa-vannah aud other southern cities, rotter Talmer to day sent a message : to the relief committee at Savannah, to araw on him by telegraph for $100 and if tho immediate want was very 1 great to telegraph him. Citizen are raising funds to scud to that iilllicted section, and substantial donations will soon be forwarded. HELP FROM MEAH'niS. . Memphis, 20. At a public meeting meet-ing to-night in the interest of the yellow fever sufferers, $1,000 was subscribed and committees were appointed ap-pointed to canvass the city.
