Tho chair laid before tho senate a communication from the grand army of the republic of tho department of tho Potomac asking that Decoration day, May 30th, be observed as u national holiday, holi-day, and inviting the senate to participate par-ticipate in the ceremony of decorating the soldiers' graves. West, from the committee on railroads, rail-roads, reported buck the senate bill to create a sinking fund for the liquidation liquida-tion of tlie government bonds advanced ad-vanced to tho Central and Western Pacitic railroad company, with amendments amend-ments and a written report on the subject. Also a new bill to create a sinking fund for the liquidation of government bonds advanced to the Union Pacific railroad company and for tLe settlement of the claims of government on account of said bonds. Placed on the calendar. The latter bill provides in brief that tho United Stales shall credit tho company with 515.000,000, tho computed value of 0,000,000 acres of lands, to be recon-veyed recon-veyed to the government, which sum, together with $1,000,000 now due for government transportation, shall be made tlie basis ol a sinking fund, and tlie company is to pay into the United States treasury sumi-smuiaHy such sum not exceeding 7o0,0JO per year as will, wiien added to the other sums credited to the sinking fund, with 0 per cent, interest per annum compounded com-pounded semi-annually, be sufficient to extinguish the government subsidy bonds and the simple interest thereupon there-upon at maturity. The bill requires the company to provide for and pay the land grant bonds issued on all the lauds which are to be recouveyed to the government. Tho bill reported from the same committee to create a sinking mud for the Central Pacific railroad company com-pany contains the same provisions, rxcept that the money payment into 'the United States treasury is to be $850,000 per year. The company is to recoiive-y and have the credit for six million acres of land in Utah and Nevada at the same valuation of $2.50 per acre. Morrill, from the committee on appropriations, reported with various amendments the house bill mitkme appropriations for tho legislative, executive and judicial expenses of the government for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 1S77. The naval appropriation bill, received re-ceived from the house yesterday, was read by its title and referred to the committee on appropriations. The senate then suspended legislative legisla-tive business and resumed the consideration con-sideration of the articles of impeachment impeach-ment against Belknap with closed doors. Before reaching any decision, at 5.40 the doors were reopened and the senate adjourned, HOLSE. Brown, from the committee on claims, presented to the house the message of the president vetoing the senate bill for the relief of G. B. Tyler and E. H. Luckett, assignees of Wm, T. Cheatham, and moved that the house pass the bill notwithstanding notwith-standing the president's veto. The hill was passed yeas 1S1, nays 1-1. Teese ofiered a resolution appointing appoint-ing J. H. Patterson of New Jersey doorkeeper of the house, which was ..dopted and Mr. Patterson was sworn into office. The speaker presented lo the house a message from the president vetoing the biil providing for the recording re-cording of deeds, mortgage? and other conveyances affecting re.il estate in the District of Columbia. The message mes-sage and bill was referred to the judiciary judi-ciary committee. Luttrcll introduced a resolution reciting re-citing that an article appeared in the Baltimore GazdU of the 20th of May charging that $300,000 had been expended by tlie Pacific coast to procure the passage of a hill to carry into eflect the treaty with the Hawaiian Hawai-ian islands, acd directing the committee com-mittee on ways and means to make an immediate investigation into the true history of such charge.
