Portland, 21, A dispatch has just been received here from Walla Walla to the efloct that a messenger has arrived there who lives on Al-powa Al-powa river, 15 mile below Lewiaton. He reports the Norton murder was led by llubcut, chief of the Wuivawi and Palouse Indians, and says there are many more killed than reported. He says a man stopped at his place and told bim that Chief Joaoph had declared that he bad warriors enough to whip all the soldiers at Forts Lap-wai Lap-wai and Walla Walla if thoy were at one post, let alone too. Tha people at Lewiaton, the messenger says, blame General Howard and Indian Agent Montieth for the whole trouble. There are more killed than named in the dispatches sent, and the difficulty is far worse than reported. The trouble did not originate about a horse trade, but was a regular outbreak, j |
