Show Accltleut to au Iowa Ritflrond Columbus Junction, Iowa, 19. The castbound train on the Atchison branch of the Chicago, Reck Island and Pacific railroad, ran into a creek ten miles west of Washington, Iowa, this morning. The engine, baggage and two passenger cars fell twenty-five twenty-five feet through the bridge. The sleeper stopped with ft third of its length projecting over the chasm. About fifty passengers were on the train, but none wero killed and none serieusly hurt. Engineer Than Rhodes of Wilton had one leg broken aud was otherwise- injured. Fireman John Moore of Wilton had both legs broken. Bacgageman Jake Cody ol Davenport had both arms and a log broken, and will probably die. Geo. Morton, express messenger, was badly crushed, but will recover. Several passongers were ahgbtly hurt. The baggage car and contents wan badly smashed. The bridge was undermined un-dermined by the tremendous rain of last night. |
