Show EliH(!OIftl. Boston, 16. In the Episcopal convention, con-vention, at the afternoon sessiou, the discussion on the proposed amendment amend-ment for a constitutional commission was continued. Dr. Dakoveu offered as a substitute for the report that a committee to consist of three bishops, three presbyters and three laymen be appointed to consider all matteis relating to the amendment of the constitution and report to the next general convention, but withdrew it temporarily. Tbe report of the com m it tee to whom the matter was originally referred, was that any commission was inexpedient. Burg-win Burg-win o( Pittsburg then oflered a reso lulion substantially like that of De-koven, De-koven, except that the committee be composed of twenty one instead ol nine. He proposed that bis reaolu jtien be acted on jointly with the report, whereupon President Burgess ' decided him out of order. Mr. Bur-igwin Bur-igwin appealed and discussion enaued. Finally the result was the withdrawal I of the appeal alter a motion had I been made to lay it on the table. Discussion came up on the report. After debate the report of the committee com-mittee was adopted by acclamation. De Koven's substitute then came up under a suspension of tbe ruleB, by a vote of 177 to 17, and the resolutions of Burgwin were auaeu to it in me form of an amendment. The same will come up in the order of unfiu ished business again. The question of a constitutional cotnmiaHfon by the adoption of the report is praotically killed, and there is but little hope entertained en-tertained by the supporters of the measure of accomplishing anything in the present convention. At the meeting of the Episcopa board to-night the resolutions of Bishop Kerfoot of Pittsburg, proposing propos-ing the passage oi an act by the various state aud territorial legislatures which will confer on the board the same rights as now enjoyed by the society in New York in relation to the title of church property in missionary mis-sionary jurisdictions of the church, providing for a board of trustees who shall hold church property in the districts dis-tricts alluded to, was adopted. |
