Show City Council. Meeting of tho city council Tuoday evening, Alderman Raleigh presiding: presid-ing: Petition of Jacob WVilur and twenty-two other resident of tho NJ ward, asking the privilege of woiking out their city taxes by repairing streets and crossings iu said ward, was received re-ceived and tho council appropriated for tho object asked the delinquent delin-quent city taxes of the ward and $300 of tho taxes of 187 (J. Petition of tho merchants and business busi-ness men on East Temple street asking ask-ing that tho firo department be in- , structed to sprinkle the nireel from ' tho hydrants, and ottering to pay a reasonable amount to defray the necessary nec-essary expense; laid on tho table, pending tho consideration of a new water ordinauce. E. Uulterworth was granted the privilege of using a portion of tho street and sidewalk in front ot his premises, Third fctoutb anJ Fourth West streets, for piling building material ma-terial thereon. Tho committee on improvements reported and recommended that $75 be appropriated to Mrs. Ruth Kimball Kim-ball to compcusato her for damage done to her welt by the overilow ui the 19th ward ditch ; also that the petition of J. Warburton and otheis, for the privilege of covveying water through certain streets for turning a molasses mill, be granted. Reports adopted. Alderman Pyper presented his re port for September. During the month eighty cases had been tried in the police court. $-519 collected in cash lines and $537.50 in labor. The city marshal presented his expense ex-pense bills for September, and the amount, $281. SO, was appropriated. The chief engineer's bill for September, Sep-tember, $29S.t9, was referred to the committee on claims. Bill of Wm. Hyde for boarding city prisonoers in September 1,324 meals, at 15 cents, $198.00 was allowed. The following bills for September I were presented and allowed: Salary of P. A. Schetller, city treasurer, $200; police, S'JyO; Wm. Hyde, supervisor and jailor, $lo0; J. W. Burt, janitor of city hall, $52; W. E. Hyde, watchman at water tanks, $00; Dr. Young, care of insane patients, $77.75; interest on borrowed money, to00, The committee on municipal laws presented a bill for an ordinance in relation to the water works, and recommended re-commended its passages. The bill was passed. Council adjourned iiU next Tuesday Tues-day evening at 7 o'clock. |
