Show PACIFIC COST NEWS. SOUTUERS CALIFORNIA. A' party of Japanese belonging to the circus were passing along Main1 street, among whom was a youthful Jap of apparently very tender years. As they stopped for a moment some one accosted the boy with, "How arc you, John?" It was a withering look of complete contempt that accompanied accom-panied the reply, in good English, "I am no Chinaman!" Los Anceles The Los Angeles Star says that it is authorized to accommodate parties who wish to bet on Tilden and Hendricks Hen-dricks carrying California to the extent ex-tent of $120, 000, in sums to suit. The L03 Angeles t'xpresa says that city is today the centre from which radiate five roads, one to San Francisco, Fran-cisco, one to Indian Wells, on the desert, one lo Anaheim, which haa been already pushed across the Santa Ana river, and which will doubtless be extended to -San Diego, ono to Wilmington, and one to Santa Monica, Mon-ica, with a probable extension of '.be latter to Independence and ultimately to a point of junction with the Southern South-ern Utah, thus giving us a third transcontinental railway, practically ceutering in Los Angeles, as the Southern Utah connocts with the Union Pacific at Ogden. The Los Angeles Express intimates that the diflerences between Colonel Scott and the Central Pacific people have been compromised, and that hereafter they will bo found working in unison. Agents of Colonel Scott are in San Francisco, and an apparently appar-ently successful movement is being made to persuade the merchants, bankers and business men of that city to join in a petition to congress to grant the subsidy asked for by Scott. These agents are meeting with great success, and no manner of opposition is interposed to their success, suc-cess, by the Central Pacific railway company. The plan agreed upon undoubtedly is that Scott shall build the direct route from San Diego to Yuma, should it prove practicable, and the Southern Pacific will build its line from Yuma to some point in New Mexico and there join with the Texas Pacific. |
