Show THE SITUATION. We take the following novel view of the political situation from the Albany Al-bany Ledier. Wo incline to the opiuion that that pistol will prove a boomerang that will cause Rutherford Ruther-ford to pass out, when Tilden will rake in the pot. The Ledyer says: "The country in thiB campaign is divided into two classes: One class represents talent, statesmanship, honesty, reform and peace, while the other represents discord, disunion, dishonesty and war. While - the former holds tho four aces, and ought to win, the other holds the four knaves and a revolver, and may win. To remove the revolver, honesty and peace would certainly prevail, but to let it remain, dishonesty and war will bo tho result, for iho kuaves will play and tbe revolver will be made to back them. Samuel J. Tilden has the fDur aces in his hand, llutherford B. Hayes has the four knaves, and and when the lasst one is played, he will quietly draw frsm its hiding place that pistol and deliberately eay, "this is my game, this money is miuo; stand back or I will shoot." Il is not a question of power, a question of life and death. Defeat is political death. Success political life. And as long as this party has in its possession the means of war, with a disposition to create strife and so unscrupulous in the use of power, the honest masses may not be surprised if they lose the strong hold they are now gaining in the administration of publio aflairs. So long as thieves, incendiaries and robbers have this government in hand wo may expect death to somebody before they release their hold. Samuel J. Tilden has now played his four acea; -boueetv, economy, retrenchment retrench-ment aud relorm, auu nas uien Hayes' four knaves; dishonesty, extravagance, increase of public expenditures and centralization. But Hayes has the pistol drawn, he has taken aim and is almost ready to fire. One moment will decide whether we live or perish, and the determination of this game rests with the honest people. Will they not step forth and assert their rights? |
