Show O.ve of the most successful co-1 ope: Alive organizations of the work, ing classes is that of the Rochdale Pioneers, in England, which smarted thirty years ago with a very small capital. Another society established upon the same plan has done almost equally well In 1S59 a small number num-ber of working men set up a cooperative co-operative store, under the title of the ;Accrington Industrial Association " The year following thn number of members had grown to eighty with a hare capital of $530. 75, the receipts for goods being $4y5. This year the titleenth since the- formation of the society, it haa 3,421 members with a share capital of $200 000 the receipts for good during the year being $700,450, and the realized prohta $93.eK). Of this sum, which goes to the benefit of the members $ o,000 has been paid in dividends! Thirty good dwellings have been built and sold to the members on easy installments, and a news-room and library have been established. Over $12,000 has been paid the present pres-ent year for educational purpose and the community in which this experiment experi-ment has been working is vastly wealthier, thriltier, happier and healthier, than it wou'd have been without the influence to which this co-operative system has given birth Of course, all laboring men cannot come together in this wav, but the plan could be made much more general gen-eral than u now is, and witu the best results.
