Show City Couucil. ! Proceciingd at the city council cn I Tuesday evening, June 24tb, 1ST 9, Miyor Little presiding: A petition was received from John H. Freeman, representing that a certain cer-tain license taken out by him as a fresh meatdealer, which expired June lOtn, 1879, through some misunderstanding, misunder-standing, had not been paid. He hud now gone out of buiineus and respectfully respect-fully asked that the license be remitted. re-mitted. The prayer of the petition was granted providing the petitioner pay the coats of the court in the proceedings pro-ceedings instituted against him tor the collection of the license. A. L. Lucas, by petition, aBked for the transfer of the unexpired freeb meat dealer's license of O. L. Lucaa, First South street, to himself in the Iwcnty-fjrat ward. Granted. Win. Calton, by petition, represented repre-sented that he purchased of the ciiy in the year 1So7, three five acre loto located in five acre plot "C," which had been claimed by other parties. He therefore aaked for the return of I the purchase money, viz. $18. Referred Re-ferred to the committee on public gruuuue. The joint committee on ways and meana and finance, to whom was referred re-ferred the Bubject of fixing tbo rate pur cent, of city taxes for the current year, reported that the rate be fixed at one-half of 1 per cent, and that it be distributed as contemplated by I he city charter. Report accepted, and the rate so fixed. The committee on waterworks, to whom was referred the matter of changing the labor of making water aEsessmeots from the assessor and collector to the superintendent of water works, .reported recommending that the assessor and collector con tinue makiug (be assessments as heretofore, here-tofore, at a salary of $200 per annum, and that be be allowed $300 for the past three years' services. Adopted, and the amounts nnnronriafpd. The committee on water worka, to whom was referred the quarterly report re-port of the superintendent of waterworks, water-works, reported that they had ex amined the accounta, vouchers, etc., and found the same correct, and : recommended that the same be approved. ap-proved. Adopted. The same committee, to whom was referred the petition of R, B. Mar-gelta, Mar-gelta, asking an extension of the water mains to bia brewery in the Nineteenth ward, reported that in their opinion the city could not con- tsitiittuuy eneuu tug water mains at present, and recommended that Mr. Margctts' petition, with the others on the same subject, be laid over. Adopted. The application of tho superintendent superin-tendent ot water worka for a leave of absence for about two and a half mouths, from August 1st, was granted. The attention of the council waB called to the fact thnt those in charge of Mount Olivet Cemetery are in the habit of using the irrigating water belong to the inhabitants of the Tenth ward and vicinity, and it was decided de-cided to refer -the matter to a special committee of three, with the city attorney associated, to take tho necessary neces-sary steps to protect the citizens. A motion was made and corried to refer the matter of the propriety of authorising tho city watermaster to regulate the distribution of water, on the Tenth ward bench land, to the committee on irrigation. Council adjourned till neitTuesday evening, at the naual hour. |
