Show Bullion Stealing. Yesterday at 1 o'clock James Goodman Good-man and George Worts ware taken before Commissioner Sprague for examination ex-amination for stealing bullion from the Ontario silver mining company. Worts was examined and the facts elicited went to show that Mr. Chambers, superintendent of the Ontario, some weeks ago discovered that bullion was being stolen and he inspected the accused ot being the thief, got out a search warrant and found a lot of the missing property in his house. In expls nation, Worts stated tbat while under the influence of drink at Park city, some time ago, a preposition was made to him to purloin bullion a little at a time and 1 turn it over to tbe proposer and be consented, taking tbe silver and delivering de-livering it to the other man. A box j containing 238 poundB of bullion was , subsequently deposited in the express; lofiice in this city for Bhipment east, which Mr. Chambers got track of and after it had left for its destination telegraphed to have it returned. It was returned on Thursday night and found to contain over $3,000 worth of bar silver. The commissioner held Worts in $200 to await tbe action of the grand jury. Goodman waived examination yesterday, yes-terday, was hold in $2,500 bonds to the grand jury, and remanded to the , custody of the marshal. I |
