Show May Day. "Ot course it's got to b!ow till a fellow's g v. to hold the hair on thp t)p of hi- ke.d; just becau-e one wants a fine day," eaya the chronic growler, never thinking of the maov fine dayd we have, because he has no special eye to fun on such days. However, may-day was pretty generally gene-rally observed, in this neighborhood, despite the miniature huricane, and clouds of dust. Lake Point w?,s the grand centre, the greatest number ot inducements being oflered and a better opportunity for speudiog more money given quite an inducement, you know. There has probably never beeu a greater number of persons at this place at any one time before and though the wind blew almost a gate and dust and handkerchiefs and dying hats and tearful eyes abounded, it seemed all were bent on having a good time and would not be frustrated. The attractions were a base ball match, rifle sbootiog, sailing on the lake of which very little was in dulged in owning to the risks attendingel;:., attend-ingel;:., etc. The Tooele people came out in goodly numbers, to wit ness the bate ball match between the club of their town and the Deserets of this city, but were doomed to Bee the Deserets come out ahead by a score of 15 to 21. Had the ay been favorable a smaller score would undoubtedly have been Bhown; as it is the Tooele boys have no reason to be ashamed of their score, which is a disappointment disappoint-ment to many, who did not expect them to make as good a showing. From the score of the rifle match, published elsewhere, it appears that Mr. John Sharp, jr., carried away the silver cup. Fuller's Hill was also well patronized, patron-ized, where every comfort that could be arranged for. the benefit of visitors was carefully provided for. This place is becoming quite popular. A great many took their May-day walk up City creek, including the I Deseret University and Miss M. . Cook's school. Dust and fun were plainly visible on every countenance. There is no use talkiog, the only wy to have a good time is to get your eyes, noie and mouth full of dust, tear your cloth.ee, fall in the water, and laugh to think what a good joke it is on tuose who see; and if this be true, there are any number who can swear, they had a " splendid time," and prove it by smiling the ghastliest smile on record. |
