He therefore atktd tbi $10 be refunded to him for sa:d lots. Petition granted and $10 appropriated appro-priated to ba refunded to Jjsppb Bull. A petition, dated November 5th, 1879, signed by Maria J. Heiss, was presented, which asced tnat toe delinquent de-linquent Uxes for toe years 1S74 5 6 and 7, on the prcperty known as the Carter estate, in tne E eveuto Ward, be remitted. The petition represented that tbeeo taxes accumulated accu-mulated before petitioner came into possession of said property, or betore she derived any benefit therefrom, and consequently should not be held reeponsiole for e&id delinquency. Petition received a;;d laid on the table. . A lengthy report from George M. , Ollioger, superintendent o! water works and chief engineer of tbe fire department, was submitted as the result of his enquiries and observations observa-tions while in Europe and the eastern states, io relation to the best metboda for obtaining an iucrease in tbe water Bupply for this city. The report re-port was read and ordered to be placed on file. A resolution providing for tbe construction of the Jordan and Salt Lake City Canal, was presented as a substitute for the ordinance under consideration on the same subject, and alter being read was accepted in . lieu of the ordinance. The resolution 'was taken up and, after consideration, considera-tion, adopted and ordered to be published. Bill of D. Bockholt, clerk or tbe county court, lor certified copies of registry lists furnished tbe city recorder, re-corder, $60, was referred to the committee com-mittee on claims. Surveyor Jesse W. Fox, pen., was appointed engineer of construction on the city canal, and Alderman A. H. Raleigh one of tbe committee on construction, both of whom were authorized to work in conjunction with the mayor, as set forth in the resolution on the subject.
