Show Marden's Benefit. Wc learn that Mr. E. B. Marden has engaged the theatre for Saturday evening next when he will present his name for a benefit for tho first time in this city. Our theatre-goers know what a conscientious and painstaking pains-taking actor Mr. Marden haa always been ever perfect in his text, particular par-ticular in drcBiing hij characters, and careful in the conception and rendering of every part, no matter how small. Ho haa frequently been called upon by the management at very short notice, to assumo prominent promi-nent parts in plays, made vacant by sickness or dereliction on the part of his fellow actors, when he has performed per-formed some marvelous feats in study, acquiring perfectly the longest parts on a few hours' notice, thus saving the management and tho audiences from disappointment. Notwilhstand-ing Notwilhstand-ing his merits, ho has ever been modest, and until the present has not ventured to call upon his many friends for their patronage. Theatrical Theatri-cal matters have been dull here of late, and actors have felt more deeply than many others the " hard limes," and as the theatre is closed just now, Mr. Marden Mar-den has essayed the role of heneficiaro aud, presenting a strong and attractive attrac-tive bill, modestly auks tho patronage of the public for Saturday night. The pieces selected arc the comedy ol "Still Waters Rim Deep," and the farce of "Betsy Baker." Mrs.Joan Clara Wallers, Mr. Graham and Mr. Wilton, we understand, have court-tously court-tously rolunteered for th- occasion, in addition to which other talented members ot tho company will appear. A moat pleasing evening's entertainment entertain-ment may be expected, and we bespeak be-speak for tho gentleman a large audience- and a kind reception. |
