Show Bilks. Bilks are a scourge to any community com-munity and the scarcer they are the better ofi are honest people and industrious in-dustrious citizens. The southern country recently has been the "stamping ground" of one of these plagues of society whom it would be well to ,;spot" and give the go-by. Mr. Norman Taylor, who resides at Taylor's ranche, a short distance south of Levan, Juab county, informed in-formed us yesturday that a number of people in that county and several north and south of it had been imposed im-posed upon by an aged individual, aliases and that people might be put upon their guard against his winning win-ning ways and importuning manner, man-ner, desired the publication of a few items concerning him. His name is James Kice, alias John Rice, alias Dr. Bice, alias "Baldy" Kice. He has made repeated re-peated representations and obtained clothing, sustenance and traveling expenses upon his word that he was well-connected and was related to a Mr. Rice at Leeds. The last-named gentleman was telegraphed to a short time ago, when he replied that he had no such relative. A contract for between be-tween 1,200 and 2,000 sheep was made at his suggestion and the flock driven up and left pn the bands of the contractor. con-tractor. Nephi is doing a thriving business busi-ness and keeping pace with the neighboring towns of Juab, Utah and Sanpete counties. Tbe people are in good spirits and general good health prevails. |
