The Virginia Vir-ginia Chronicle tells a story of a hunter hun-ter named Robinson, who, in company com-pany with a man named Knox, was in Gravelly valley, about fifty miles from Virginia city, last February, looking fur game. They had killed a large bear, and on tlie lm of the mouth Robinson accidentally shot himself badly in the foot, causing caus-ing great loss of blood. Knox started for a physician on a journey of forty miles, but the heavy fall of snow prevented their reaching the wounded man. Altotit ten days ago a parly of men visited the locality, to .bury Ihe bo ;y of their comrade as they supposed, but great was their surprise to find him alive and hob-i hob-i bling about on crutches. He had dived two months on raw bear's meat, keeping his wound dressed with snow. Under this treatment the inflammation inflamma-tion subsided, and the wound healed, he probing it with a wire and getting the splintered bones out. All this lime his entire literary solace was a fraction of an old New York Tribune, which he studied until he could repeat re-peat it entirely. This shows (bat while there's life there may be hope. |
