Wright was for fivo years director ot the Northern Pacific railroad, and chairman of the finance committee. He announces a progressive policy, and says that the work of construction construc-tion can and will be soon resuimd. The settlement of the questions in regard to the freight and passenger fares pending between tUe Pacific Mail steamship company and ttie Panama railroad company, was reached yesterday. By the new contract con-tract it is agreed' on the part of tho Pacific Mail company to guarantee to the Panama road $40,000 per month o( through freight, which is an increase in-crease ot aboiU $180,000 over the amount received by that road last year. It is also agreed that the road .shall have the same number ot passengers pas-sengers guaranteed to it, as it had last year, during which time the fares amounted to about $100,000.
