The cause given is tbe suspension of E.J. Dunning, jr. Tbe I concern is one of the largest patent medicino firms in the country, and j in mercantile agency books is marked as having a capital of $500,000 to $760,000. There has been no settlement, settle-ment, as yet, of tbe affairs ol E. J. Dunnioe, jr. From all we can learn they are not in as good condition in several respects as they were thought and represented to be when tbe suspension sus-pension was first announced, John F. Hemy was the republican candidate for mayor of Brooklyn Brook-lyn in tbe November elections. Henry says his firm bad a large amount of paper in Dunning'a hands which had been sent back to them, which it was impossible to meet at so short notice. H. K. and A. M. Whittemore, partners of H. M. Cutter, cotton broker, who were reported as fleeing yehterday, are now announced as miDsinj;. The bookkeeper of the firm bas not seen any member since yesterday afternoon. He thinks the total amount involved in their operations oper-ations will bo $50,000. The Times says H. M. Cutter, cotton cot-ton broker, has disappeared. Liabilities, Lia-bilities, $100,000. Tho insurance commissioner, com-missioner, this morning, made application ap-plication for tbe appointment of a re-1 oeiver for the Charter Oak Life Insurance In-surance company, and a temporary injunction. Tho judgo granted the injunction and ordered tbe officers into court on Monday next to Bbow cause, if any, why the application should not be granted. |
