Under the management of succtedinn republican republi-can administrations the cuuutry has advanced to tbe point ol specie resumption, re-sumption, and tho highest interests of business, no less than tbe plighted faith ol the republic, demand mat there- shall be no step backward aud no postponement. VVuli Ibis steady progress we hail me auspicious auspici-ous nuns of reviv.un trade und industry, aud cnugraiulatH the people upon this practical advance. Tbbt if the good work shall be completed, com-pleted, the depression which grew out ol the financial disorders forced upon us by the war of the rebellion will give place to returning confidence . and permanent prosperity, which can rest alone on the fixtd raouelary standard of tbe commercial world, .and on its settled values and full security aud certainty lor tho luture. Standing uualterable 1or IhB constitutional constitu-tional principles of hurd money, wc insist that the greenback, instead of being dishonor. d and depreciated, shall be made as good as honest cuin, and that labor's dollar shall mean a real dollar. That uncertainties which rob toil and paralyze trade uta'l cease; that our currency shall h made tho best currency by making all parts ol it, whether paper or coin, equivalent, convertible, secure and etuady, and all pubiio servants, whether executive officers, senators or representatives,- whose acts or votes conduce to this high object, deserve our approbation. While sincerely eefcking fraternal relations in all just cllorts und appira- newed vigilance and uu flinching warfare against the vast hordes of claims and raids on the treasury which count for suacesa on democratic rule, under the mastery of a solid south, and which, would fall with special hardship on New York, as i the chief tax paying etate iu the Union. We demand free and unintimidaled elections in the south as iu the north, and the full recognition and observance of the equal rights and liberty of all citizens as ordained by the amended constitution. Tbe electoral commission was a wise aud honorable mode of settling a dangerous dispute. All parties were bound to abide its decision and any attempt to undo or impair the con elusion it established ia unpatriotic and revolutionary. We renew our declarations for tho elevatiou ot the pubiio service on the basis of a secure teuure, during the faithful perloimance of official duties, for a fixed term. While recognizing with eatislao-tion eatislao-tion that many patriotic democrats dem-ocrats do not Bhare its ppirit and impure-, we arraign the dominant forces ot the democratic Dirlv a3 a constant dpeturherof the public Iran quilfty and peace; as a wanton too of pubiio security in its per-iistent assaults upon the authority and stability of tbe established government; govern-ment; as attempting to weaken the nation by crippling the army in a time ol uncertainty and danger; as guilty of (alao pretences in claiming for a democratic houae u reduction in the public expenditures whose fraudulent fraud-ulent chnracttr is proved by the necessity for heavy deficiency bills; us depeadant on a solid soulh and thereby there-by subservient to all its demands; as aggravating the troubles of the coun Iry by mischievous agitation through the period of its supremacy in the bouse of representatives; as faithless to the obligations of national honor and the chief support of the wild schemes of inflation, repudiation and the utter financial disorders which imperil tbe public credit and buBicess security, and its further or greater success would be a national calamity. An emergency in the history of the country, second only to the great struggle for its existence, now confroota us. As then the republican party was tbe sole organized political protection against national disruption, a Lid patriotic citizens, ot whatever party name, rallied under its standard for the defense of the Union, so now tbe republican organization is the only efficient bulwark against national repudiation and dragrace, and it again invites all good citizens, of whatever previous political ties, to unite with it in preserving the national honor. Geo. Wm. Curtis, rising, was greeted with applame and bud calls to take tho platform, where he was again received with a hearty greeting. He said he rose to., a second motion tor the unanimous adoption of the platform plat-form which had just been read. We came here for harmony and harmony we have louud. I do not believe there is a republican in the land, from the preeideut down, who can fail to approve the position taken in this plallorm on the greiit, overshadowing issue of the hour. I believe this is the platform upon which the republican administration of tbe country would stand. Geo. F. Dan ford was nominated for judge of the court of appeals and the convention adjourned sine die. |
