Show The Minnesota Wtieut. Crop. Milwaukee, 14 A late article in the New York Graphic stated that some scientific tests made by the pro- i lessors of agricultural chirms try indicate indi-cate that the sprouting qualities ot last year's crop of No. 2 cpring wheat have been seriously damaged, j j owing to the excessive heat which pre-1 vailed just before tho harvest in some! 'portions of the west, notably Minnesota. Minne-sota. In contradiction of thip state ment, Mr. Hunting, of McGregor, Iowa, who is largely interested in wheat landa in Minnesota, exhibited here, to day, a box of wheat plants of healthy and vigorous growth, germinated from shrivel. eel, bleached and shrunken kernels, that weighed from forty five to forty seven pounds to tho bubhel aud which would not grade belter than rejected. The kernels were counted before planting and not one failed to eprout. f he plants are equal in oppearance to the eprout grown from the bi-et No. 1 wheat. Mr. Hunting nas talked with a number of farmers, u II of whom agree that this light wheat will germinate to the extent and equal with the heavier and better qualities and a majority of them intend using it for seeding in preference to pitying the present price lor No. 1. Iu Hunt ing'a opinion, based on information from farmers and producers, tbera is no cause for alarm concerning the germinatinR qualities of even the poorest of last year's wheat crop. |
