Secretary Sber- man has just issued a circular ofier- . ing atone-half of 1 percent, above par, and accrued interest to the dale, of subscription, 150,000 of the 4 per, cent, funded loan of tbe United StattB in denominations, viz: Coupon bonds of $50, $100, $500 and $1,000, and registered bonds of $j0, $100, $500, $l,0l;0 and $10,000, tbe proceeds to be applied to the redemption of United States bonds issued under the act of Match, lStJ4, and known as the 10 40 bonds. Tbe bocds ollered are ' redeemable July 1st, 10o7, and bear interest payable quarterly each year, and are exempt from taxation in any form. One-eighth cf 1 per ceut. commission will be allowed ou bud scriptions of $1,000 cr over, and bonds will be transmitted free ol charge to subscribers. All national banks complying with section 5,143 of the Revised Statutes are invited to become agents of government and depositaries of publio money received on sale of these bonds. All persons aiding in placing these bonds can make their arrangements through national banks for the deposit of purchase pur-chase money. Tbe assistant treasurer's treas-urer's oflice, San PranciBCO, is one of the placeB designated where payments may be made. The secretary will also exchange for any outstanding uucalled 1U-40 bunds tf tbe United States an equal amount of 4 per cent, oonds. In such case this department will pay to the holder of said 10 40's interest accrued and a premium ot i of 1 per ceut. Ten-dollar refuudmg certificates may be couverted upon toeir surrender to tbe treasurer of the United States at Washington into an equal amount of tbe 4 per cent, bonds herein described, but .a premium pre-mium of i of per cent, will bo re quired on all such refunding certificates certifi-cates issued upoD the certificate of a national hank depositary. All blanks or forms or information needed will be furnished by the department without with-out cost. It is not believed here tbai Secretary Secre-tary Sherman will be able to fund the 4 per cents at the rates he advertises a; present, while 4s are below par in New Y'ork. |
