Show THE OA Kan EX. An EnellNh Opinion or the Auiericau Buwers, London, 29. The Times, speakiog of the American orews wuich are to participate in the four-oared races at Henly, on tbe4tb of July, ssya: The ouowttuuemeiui u eiyie is not sucn as we are accustomed to see in England, as they dribble their oara along tbe water and bucket forward, rowing a very short stroke, and though opinions differ considerably as to their speed, they at present have not covered the course in anything like first-rate time. It is reported that tney rowtd over Watkios' course in 7 minutes and 17 seconds, but this was a lake, and it is doubtful if tbey oan at present compass com-pass Uinly course against the stream under 9 minutes, tbe average time taken lor the last five years by tbe winners of tbe Steward's challenge cup. Four coxswainleaa fours bavt been S minutfcB, 30 seconds, but then some ol the races were won very easily. The fastest time was 7 min utes, 56 seconds. The Columbias row a sharp, Bbort stroke, and are rather well together, using their backs and lega more after tbe English fashion than the other American four to whom they at present seem to be superior. |
