Show I'ititt on tli Cliiiicae. Washington, 29. The Capital, today, to-day, contains the following editoiial paragraph: "That the California people peo-ple are unauimous against Chinese immigration is shown by the action of the constitutional convention on tbe memorial to congress. The chairman of the committee, General Miller, was a delegate at largo upon tbe nou-partiaan nou-partiaan ticket. The earnestness with which the convention wages the question ques-tion demonstrates a fair but deep impression im-pression against the heathen Chinee, and it is hoped that congress will deal a decisive blow at one of the great evns wnicu luremeu uurtuuuiry. jxtj-ligiousiy, jxtj-ligiousiy, morally and politically the Chinaman is inimical to the spirit of our institutions, and is altogether a filthy wretch, as dangerous ad he is nasty. The southern negro is absorbed ab-sorbed into our politics to his own good and without harm to the while man, but the Chinaman is irredeemably irredeem-ably a creature of his own country and will never improve." |
