Show Runaways. Yesterday was a glorious day for runaways. Three took place, and one team made a manly attempt but failed. The first was a horse in a harness har-ness that flew n round tbe City Hall corner at a break neck pace dealing death and destruction- the harness. The traces would flip around his hind legs and goad him on and the liooa aUocaugbtiu on tho fetlock of one ol the rear limbs, and ho would kick vigorously to get ihem ofl. The next ws a saddle horsa with a goose on it. It flaw down Main street, the gooose swaying gracefully from aide to side and keeping the spectators in a state of constant expectation ex-pectation of eeeiug a neck broken. But be vanished around the corner ; and all were disappointed. Tho third was a team and wagon, but as tho driver held on with a vim, he finally succeded in hauling them up before any damage Wd8 done. . The manly attempt cccurred at the junction of Commercial and First 3outh streets. The team desired to turn one way hut the driver did not choose to. Coaxing was in 7ain and the wagon box begau to a9iime a vertical position, aud the crowd began to givo the driver a piece of multitudinous advice, the weight of which so over came the fractious animals that they sank back exhausted aud hung their 'beads and tails foi very shame. |
