Show . Government ami The Uniou f aciiio. Washington, 4. Government directors have sent their annual report re-port to the secretary of the interior. They are of tho opinion that the Union Pacific, in view ol the extremely ex-tremely liberal aid it has received from government and the brilliancy of its success as a commercial enterprise, enter-prise, should be judged by the most severe standards known among railroads rail-roads of the country. Measured by this etandaid they report deficiences many and apparent, At the sime time the property is being brought up with steadiness, though slowly to a fair degree ol average excellence. The failure to replace with Bteel rails, the worn out iron rails, is sharply criticized, and the direclors say although (he policy now pursued by the company in regard to the material condition of the property is carelul and pufficiently sale, it is by do means liberal, cor eucb as tbe country has the right to expect, or the government to insist upon. |
