Show Iowa Lteuiocrnls. Council Bluflj, Ia., 21, Tbe demo cralic state convention assembled this morning. A temporary organization waa efiected by choosing James R. Hagerman, of Keokuk, president. Upon taking the chair he returned thanks for the honor and endorsed the attitude of the democratic party in congress ; denounced President HayeB, and declared that the democracy democ-racy will not only elect the next president but will inaugurate him. Committees on resolutions and credentials cre-dentials were appointed, and recess waa taken. Upon reassembling General A. C. Dodge was made chairman, and T. O Walker secretary. Tbe committee commit-tee on credentials reported 47G delegates dele-gates present out of 609 provided lor in the call. A Btate central committee, commit-tee, headed by Ed. Campbell, jr., of the First district, waa appointed. General Dodge, on taking the chair, denounced the republican parly for forcing resumption, and advocated a union of all elements opposed to the republican party. H. H. Trimble waa nominated for governor by acclamation, aud Moses Blooms for lieutenant governor. |
