Show Police Court In the case of the People vs. Fred Jones, charged with resisting and bruising an officer, a new trial waa bad yesterday morning, The evidence evi-dence was again brought out, from I wbicb it appears tbat be waa first struck by tbe officer, without apparent appar-ent just provocation, and that he struck back again; but that he bruised tbe officer afcer knocking him down. The jury, aft- r being out tor tome time, returned with a verdict ot not guilty aa regards the resisting of the officer, but guilty of bruising, as charged. It will be remembered tbat in the former trial the jury found tbe defendant guilty wholly aa the complaint com-plaint charged him. Judge Pyper then fined tho defendant $10 and costs $'28.40, whereupon it was aakod by the counsel for the defense that a bond be allowed on which an appeal might be taken within the next thirty days if so delivered. The request wis granted. A number of additional water cases were doomed of, some being fined and others discharged. George Barton, for disturbing the peace and being in a condition of imbecility im-becility through having too freely partaken par-taken of beverajes whose natures have a tendency to "steal away men's brains" commouly known as "drunk" was fined $10. A obarge against a man named Beck and his mother, for filling up a ditch belonging to a party named Wheeler, is to have a bearing to day. A case of larceny is also to come up this morning. |
