Show Old Folks' Day. The excursionists who went to Ogden on the above ticket had a splendid time. From the hour of starting until their return home it was a succession ol peasant surprises and gratifying enjoyments. The Tenth Ward band dispensed-some excellent music and tbe indefatigable commit tee knick kncka, lemonade and eatables. eat-ables. The band played at Bounti ul, Ceutreville, Farmiugton and Kays ville, and at each place accessions of our worthy grandiirea took place, so that when the train arrived in Ogden there were thirteen cars containing about 550 sou's. The Seventh Ward string band a'so visited each car and did some splendid singing. On the arrival of the train in OgdeD, the city authorities had 125 wagonB and carriages in charge of MarBbal White. All tbe movements wera systematic and well timed. A group of beautiful little girls in charge of I Mr. Monch and a gentleman whose ! name we did not learn, presented boqaets of flowers to tbe most aged, and aUo to the church authorities. Preceded by the 0,;den brass band and the Tenth ward from Salt Lake city, the long procession oi carriages moved to Mayor Farr's grove that had been generously tendered to the visitors from Salt Like. At the grove hot water and other facilities for enjoyment en-joyment were offered with unspariug band. Ticnic over, prizes were disbursed dis-bursed to the oldest lady and gentle man present, the ladies that bad the largest families. One old lady had the extraordinary number of 600 grand and great grandchildren. grandchil-dren. Then followed jig dancing anil foot races by old gentlemen over SO veara of aae. which was entered into nub a zest and vim truly remarkable. At intervals the Ogden brass baud and the Tenth Ward band played. The company were also treated to music by the Scappatura brothers, in Italian. Oq the arrival of President Taylor and Bishop Hunter at the grove, after a recess from the foregoing exercises, short and interesting speeches were made by President Taylor, Bishop Hunter, Mayor Farr and Wilford Woodruff, all expressive of their great enjoyment of tbe happy occasion when so miny old friends that had stood shoulder to shoulder during the trying scenes of the early history of the church were brought together. The weather was delightful. The grove shady and dry, with the beautiful beauti-ful Ogden river running close to it; no accident occurred to mar the enjoyment en-joyment of all parties. Some 1500 persons were assembled. A more orderly, kindly and generous assembly assem-bly would be difficult to find. The committee of gentlemen who managed man-aged the aftair are lavish in ibe-ir praises of the great kindness and true 1 liberality of tbe citizens of Ogden, nd are glad that the last word given to tuem when they moved towards home was "come again." |
