Some excitement i was caused here last night by Edward j rihaw, colored, wharf master, going to a saloon and threatening to cut the throat and scalp Mr. Younger, a colored speaker from St. Louis, for stumping Mississippi during the late canvass for the conservatives. Younger Young-er appealed to the chief of police for protection, and that oflicer sent some men to protect him, but Younger, fearing Stiaw would incite other necroes to murder' him, changed his lodgings about 0 o'clock last night. Fay Good bar, of the firm of Good-har& Good-har& Gillett, wholesale boot and shoe dealer, was shot at the corner of Vanco and Lanilervillo Etreets by James A. Owei berg, of the- Union & Planters' bank, who seeing Goodbar advance on him flourishing a stick, muugdL jie vtas a garroier ana nrea and wounded Goodbar severely in the lace. The parties were grxxl friends, and no one regrets the occurrence more than Owerberg, who immediately immedi-ately surreiulere I himself to the authorities, hut was released at the request of Goodbar. |
