Bornstein, an old and respected citizen here, was found murdered in his dwelling house this morning. His family were absent, visiting in the West. It appears the old man went home about eleven o'clock last night, and started to go into his bedroom to retire, when a blow from an axe in the hands of an assassin, concealed behind tiie door, felled him to the lloor. A slight scuffle scuf-fle seems to have followed, but the murderer made sure work, burying the axo deep in Bornstein's bead. The deceased was found in the dining room adjoining the bedroom; his pocket book was by his side, empty, and his watch was gone.shewing that robbery was tho motive. It is not supposed that ho had much money about him at the time. Vigorous search is now going on to find a clew to the murderer, and citizens citi-zens are subscribing liberally towards a reward for his apprehension. Two Chinamen are arrested on suspicion, but there is no positive proof against them yet. There is great excitement in the town, and if the murderer is found he will meet summary justice. The deceased leaves a large family. We learn that Mr. Bornste;n had been a resident of Corinne for Eome time, and had many friends. Hisj wife is now in S;in Francisco on a visit, and he hud two daughters recently re-cently married and a son. One of his daughters ?S residing in Corinne, and the other is at Toano. It ii prob able that his remains will be In ken to Sun Francisco for interment. |
