Show A Novel Experiment. The prevalence of suow&lidcs in Little Cottonwood has been tho subject sub-ject of much thought among tho residents resi-dents of that region, to discover it something could be done to prevent the frightful catastrophes which occur oc-cur there almost every winter. If thedangoro( being caught in ono of those avalanches of snow could bo avoided the principal objection to winter traffic on that road would bo overcome. A trip up the canon at anytime after the heavy snows commence com-mence in tho Autumn till late in the Spring is attended with continuous risk of being buried in a snowslidc. Wo understand that tome parties owning and working mines in tho gulches east of Alta where slides arc of frequent occurrence, especially after a fall of loose snow were, yestcrda', to try a novel plan of preventing accidents, ac-cidents, by causing tlie snow to slide by artificial means, when there was no danger of loss of life. Their plan was to blast the snow at points where slides are liable to occur, thinking that probably the fores of the explosion explo-sion would jar the snow sufficiently to cause it to break loose and slide. We did not learn with what results their experiments wero followed, but it is doubtful if they wore satisfactory; however, we hope they had the desired de-sired effect. |
