Fisher, late assistant United States iiltorney, who was arrested lust night on a charge of stealing appeal bonds and papers in forty district cases which hud been appealed from the police court to the criminal court, 1ms waived an examination, and id held to answer belore the grand jury now in betsiou. The police have discovered discov-ered not only the papers charged to have been stolen, but an additional number of equal importance, that Fisher had placed in possession of another party, from whom they wero obtained. The object wob to realize money on them. The law provides a penalty lor such offences of a fine of $2,000 or hard labor for three years, or both. The accused is tho son of Judge Fisher, late United States attorney at-torney for the district of Columbia. Tho president has appointed Amos L. Frost collector of internal revenue for the consolidated district known as the 4th district of California. He has also signed the commission of Alox. White, of Ahbnm, to be chief justice of Utah territory. Ensign T. S. Plemkett is detached from tho Ossipce and ordered to duty in assisting Commander McCook in charge of a draft of men to San Francisco, Fran-cisco, and on arrival there is to report for temporary duty on board the receiving re-ceiving ship Independence. |
