Having examined Uie prominent items, in those congressional bills, propositi; special legislation for Utah; ami exhibited the unjust, anti-republican, oppressive andunconstitutional measures proposed in their provisions; provis-ions; it may be well now to examine tho reasons alledged for this extravagant extrava-gant and suicidal course of proceeding. proceed-ing. These bills profess to bo "lit aid f the execution of (he lavs in Utah, and for other purposes." What these other purposes are does not appcai; and we are therefore left to draw our own conclusions from the tenor o( the bills themselves. Now if they had stated honestly that their object was to aid a small unprincipled un-principled junta, or ring, in breaking up all legitimate rule; in dc.-troying republican institutions; in disorganizing disorganiz-ing society; in strangling liberty and introducing anarchy and despotism; and in providing a way for three or four federal officials to disfranchise, rob, plunder and destroy one hundred hund-red and thirty thousand American citizens, it would have been nearer j the mark. As our Territorial courts are e.-pec-ially aimed ut iu those bills, I propose pro-pose to examine the action of our i courts, and compare it with that of theirs; and exhibit from authentic dati, how far tiieir allegations are sustained bv facts.
