An Advance Ad-vance special from Helena, received at 10:30 to-night.saya: There is great excitement here ou account ot the condition of affairs at Friar's Point. I passed there this morning, and the white people were much excited, while the negroes appeared quiet. Many white ladies left their homei. Senator Alcorn Bent his daughter here for safety. It is reported that the negroes 3U0 strong, were within a few miles of the town, and Gen. Chalmers, who was in command ot the whites, went out and met them and gave them ten minutes to disperse, when the negroes retired some three milts, and again organized. General Chalmers again advanced and ordered Uieui to disperse, which they did. This is the latest report from Uiere and it is supposed sup-posed the negroes are awaiting reinforcements. rein-forcements. Colonel Burke and others have already left hero lor that place, and an effort U being made to organize a forco to go down to-nighl. I think it is Bimihir to the Auutin troubles, and all stirred up by bad men. |
