Show The Population of Utah. We notice in some statistical matter mat-ter published in the Xvws last evening, even-ing, and editorially endorsed, a statement state-ment that the population of Utah is computed at 100,000. As the census cen-sus taken two years ago next month in March, 1872 gwe the Territory a population, we believe, of 110,000, to accept this computation would be to admit that the population of the Territory was decreasing, when all must know it is increasing. The matter mat-ter is of more importance than it would at a glance appear, as Utah is asking admission as a State, having the requisite population, which it would not have were tlie number no greater than 100,000. Two years ago a census of tint city showed that it I bad a population ol 20,000; and from ! the names already in ou tlie canvass for the Directory we estimate its present pre-sent population at about 26,000; if not above it. |
