Show Mining Interests-While Interests-While 1875 has not been characterized charac-terized by any great results in mining matters, the year will close with a better record than that of any pre ceding twelve months. The lack of confidence has greatly retarded investment in-vestment in and development of miues in the territory, but it has also cheeked venal - speculation and swindling. Of the scores of sharpers who were here wt one time for the sole purpose of preying upon trusting capitalists, scarcely none remain. They have taken to honest work or fled to other sections to practice fraud. What has brcn done in mines this year is legitimate. If an instance of "salting" or swindling, such as were once very frequent, has occurred, it is not generally known. There have been a number of sales, but in no case has a fancy price been paid. The original owners appear ap-pear to be satisfied if when they seh they can obtain the actual known vaiue of their property; and as a result re-sult we have not learned of a pui-chaser pui-chaser complaining that ho baa been bitten. Wc do not know of a single property which has changed hands this seaion that has not proven itself as rich if not richer than was represented repre-sented by the sellers. The consequence conse-quence of this is that confidence is being restored and capitalists of the east and west are looking towards Utah, with a view to investing some of the thousands which aro being hoarded in bank vaults. If lying, cheating and systematized swindling can be entirely done away with in the B ile of mines and undeveloped proepecUa, there is no reason why next season will not see the working of tt-n valuable properties where there has been oue in 1875. The ore is here and the money is ready to be expended in extracting it; but cap-italiats, cap-italiats, before they will invest, must understand that they are to be dealt with fairly and honestly by man, and they will take the chances which uature imposes of veins "pinching out" and lodges mynteriously disappearing. disap-pearing. If our mining men will continue in the course they have pursued this year, the bright future for Utah, for which all have been waiting and watching, will speedily appear; but the further they stray from thiB path the more distant will be the day of prosDcrity. |
