Show The Chicago Times says that the only hope of tne democratic party in tho next presidential contest lied in the resumption of specie payment and a coin tender before the election. It urges the new democratic house of representatives to take the wind out of the republican 1S79 resumption act, by declaring specie resumption on the 4th of July, 1876. Tho Times does not imagine that any such resolution reso-lution will bo taken, as it siysthe democracy is irretrievably divided on the financial question. "Tho issue is made by the demand of the democratic demo-cratic party in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, the whole south and a large section of tho east, that greenback legal-tender legal-tender shall become the established system of this nation." |
