Show HOME TRUTHS. Andy Johnson tells some whole-, some, though unpalatable truths in his speeches. At Gallatin he said that he had seen eleven columns of advertisements ad-vertisements of tax-sales in a Memphis Mem-phis paper and it was the same at Nashville. Taxes were six per cent, while the farmers' profits were only four per cent., showing that bankruptcy bank-ruptcy was steadily approaching. The speaker might well ask: "Under such circumstances, where is the country going to ? " Following this, came a home-thrust which we think will Btrike many outside of the Suite of Tennesee. He said: "There are too many soft-handed young men about, the sons of hard - working fathers, who are ashamed and unwilling un-willing to work for an honest living." It is to be hoped that Andy Johnson will be made a member of the next Congress. -His influence wojU be altogether a healthful one, and his lection could not fail to be regarded as an indication of approaching re-Jorm re-Jorm in political affairs. |
